The Dallas franchise now has until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement with its starting quarterback.
Dak Prescott signed its $ 31.4 million franchise offer Monday with the Dallas Cowboys for the 2020 season, according to reports.
Prescott and the Cowboys could still try to work out a multi-year contract extension – the two sides have until July 15 to reach a long-term agreement.
If they don’t agree to a contract, they’ll have to renegotiate next offseason or the quarterback will be a free agent, although the Cowboys may also choose to make him a franchise player again.
The 26-year-old is entering his fifth season in the NFL and is coming off his best year: He finished second in the league with a total of 4,902 passing yards and fourth in the league with 30 touchdown passes.
