The sports director of Formula 1 analyzed the first date of the 2020 calendar and what was the disappointing performance of the German Ferrari.
Ross Brawn, sports director of the Formula One, understands that the decision of Ferrari to part with Sebastian Vettel had a negative effect on the German during the Austrian Grand Prix.
The four-time world champion was unable to roll out in Saturday’s second classification and finished 10th in Sunday’s race, eight places behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The German pilot was condemned to run from the bottom after making contact with Carlos Sainz, precisely who will replace him in the Cavallino Rampante in 2021.
“It was a difficult start for Sebastian’s last season with the team,” Brawn wrote in his column on the official F1 website. “Everything must be spinning in his head, after discovering that Ferrari did not want to renew its services for next season,” he added.
In turn, the former coach in the Italian team commented: “Sometimes the things that discourage a driver are quite subtle. Sebastian seems surprised and shocked by what happened and it must be a distraction, understandably.”
And when it came to talking about the Monegasque Leclerc, Brawn praised: “On Sunday, Charles proved that he is a talented driver, wisely managing his chances to take an opportunistic second place. It is in these difficult races that the determination and talent of very special pilots. ” But Ferrari has to quickly improve the situation, otherwise they will face a very difficult season. They have plans to improve the car for Hungary, which is encouraging, but the beginning of the year is more difficult than they expected. “
