The Dutch Red Bull rider stopped the clock in 1: 03.660 after 27 laps at the Red Bull Ring in Austria in the second training session of the day, improving by 43 thousandths the time of Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), leader of the drivers’ championship after winning the first event of the season last week.
Third in the table was the Mexican Sergio Pérez, of Racing Point F1, after having surprised everyone earlier with the best time in Practice 1.
The disappointments of the day, which also featured Daniel Ricciardo’s inconsequential accident, came from the great stars of F1: Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. The first signed the sixth best time, while the German came much further back, in 16th place.
