Negotiations for a third match between the Mexican and the Kazakh would have started and they are expected to meet again next year.
After their two clashes in the span of a year, between 2017 and 2018 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the possibility began to be woven that Saúl Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin complete the trilogy next year.
According to Eric Gómez, president of GoldenBoy Promotions in an interview with Sky Sports, the match between the Mexican and the Kazakh would be planned for May 2021.
“They both realized that their events were very successful. For them it would be very beneficial to fight again, monetarily speaking. Canelo is willing to star in that third fight,” said the said leader.
In the contests that took place between the two fighters, the first ended in a tie, while the second was left in the hands of the Aztec by majority decision.
“I hope we can surprise everyone as we start next year with the fight. Both fighters are open to the fight,” Gomez added.
