Center Ben Te’o and fullback Mike Brown still haven’t sorted out their personal bickering. Last year the two men had an incident in the context of a social gathering that England held, prior to the World Cup that paradoxically has the purpose of uniting the ties, and ended with the decision of Eddie Jones not to take them to Japan.
“We haven’t seen each other since then. We haven’t spoken again. It wasn’t a big deal to me. I didn’t get up the next day thinking about what had happened the night before, but Eddie Jones called to tell me he wouldn’t take me to Japan. “Ben Te’o told BT Sport. The former Worcester, who had a short-lived stint at Toulon last year, currently plays for the Brisbane Broncos in the Australian rugby league.
The two men are known to have had an altercation during a night that supposedly strengthens the ties of the English before the 2019 World Cup. Mike Brown was also not at the World Cup and the Harlequins fullback never wanted to talk about what really it happened. A month after the incident Brown stated that “I don’t want to talk about this because I don’t feel comfortable talking about it. I will talk about it in due course, but the people close to me know the details and that is the most important thing for me” .
Te’o says the incident was not a big problem, but admits that the couple has not yet crossed paths to chat about the issue. Speaking to Brian O’Driscoll of BT on Lions Call, Te’o said, “There was obviously a union social event and there was an incident. I’m not quite sure if that’s the reason or if that’s not the reason why I stayed out of the World Cup. What happened was that I entered the World Cup preselection and had a calf discomfort at the beginning the concentration for the RWC. I was doing a lot of rehabilitation and I was not running and I was probably staying a bit behind”.
“Then we had an incident with a teammate at a union event. Eddie called me and said he wasn’t going to take me to the World Cup. He was pretty upset with me, ”said Te’o. “We actually get along well [él y Mike Brown]. Sometimes things happen and the boys have too many drinks ”, he closed.
