Men’s tennis was to return on August 14 in Washington with the ATP 500. But on Tuesday, Mark Ein (tournament director) confirmed that the tournament will not be played.
“There are many external issues that were not resolved, including restrictions on international travel and health and safety issues that forced us to make this decision to be fair to players, partners and suppliers, so that they have certainty in their planning,” Ein said in statements raised by the Washington Post.
ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi said in a statement: “Unfortunately at the moment there are many factors beyond our control. We hope that the Citi Open will return as one of the events of the American tour in 2021.”
