American Danielle Collins was kicked out of the World TeamTennis (WTT) tournament in West Virginia for breaking Covid-19 protocols.
“We have fired Danielle Collins for the remainder of the 2020 World Tennis Team season after breaking our Covid-19 protocols by leaving The Greenbrier Resort and the state of West Virginia,” WTT Chief Executive Carlos Silva said in a statement.
It is one of the few live sporting events that allows fans in the United States to attend amid the coronavirus pandemic. The entire three-week WTT regular season will take place at the Greenbrier resort in West Virginia.
Organizers did not provide details on the trip by Collins, 26, who reached the semifinals of the 2019 Australian Open. “The protocols have been implemented and communicated on numerous occasions to protect the health and safety of our players, coaches and staff who are of utmost importance to WTT. “
Collins, No. 51, had criticized Novak Djokovic last month after the No. 1 in the world said it would be “impossible” to play this year’s US Open under Covid-19 protocols proposed by the organizers. It should be remembered that Frances Tiafoe was forced to drop out of the WTT events after testing positive for Covid-19 while playing in the exhibition tournament in Atlanta.
