World Rugby firmly refutes the erroneous and unsubstantiated claims made by Pacific Rugby Players Welfare and its CEO Dan Leo regarding the influence of the international federation on the recent electoral process and other governance issues.
World Rugby is fully satisfied that the 2020 election for president was conducted in accordance with a robust process and that Sir Bill Beaumont was chosen fairly and appropriately.
World Rugby advocates for the promotion of best practices for governance structures in sport, as demonstrated in the recent ASOIF report on governance in sport which independently reviewed World Rugby governance and highlighted World Rugby as the best performing federation.
Reflecting this commitment, World Rugby is constantly reviewing its decision-making structures and is currently conducting an independent governance review, led by Sir Hugh Robertson, with player representatives nominated by International Rugby Players within the working group. The scope of the review includes analysis of the criteria for choosing suitable members for the positions.
Furthermore, World Rugby only recognizes International Rugby Players as the international body representing players. Within their structures, Pacific players are represented through Pacific Rugby Players.
