The Basque returns to direct after his last stint in the Premier with Arsenal and will assume in a Yellow Submarine that next season he will have the challenge of the Europa League.
Villarreal made the hiring of Unai Emery as a new coach. The Basque signs a contract with the Castellón club for the next three seasons, until 2023, and replaces Javi Calleja, who leaves after signing a great campaign in which he classified his team to the UEFA Europa League after finishing fifth in La Liga 2019/20.
The born in Hondarribia returns to Spain to live his fourth experience after his successful stint in Almería, Valencia and, especially, Seville, where he managed to win the Europa League three times and signed a runner-up in the Copa del Rey.
His great performance in Nervión earned Emery to reach one of the biggest clubs in the world such as PSG, a place where after two years he won Ligue 1, two French Cups, two League Cups and two Super Cups from that country. From there he ended up at Arsenal, which he managed to qualify for a European final 13 years later (defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the UEL) and directed until last November.
Emery will be presented to the media next Monday, July 27, in which he will be the starting gun for his project in the Yellow Submarine, where he will meet again with players he has already trained as Raúl Albiol, Vicente Iborra or Alberto Moreno .
Welcome, @UnaiEmery_ !
