The award by the English press announced the Liverpool captain as the best footballer of the season.
The captain of Liverpool, Jordan Henderson, was named the Footballer of the Year of the Premier League by the Association of Soccer Writers (FWA).
The English midfielder was influential in leading the team in a dominant campaign that led the Reds to the title, seven dates in advance and to cut a 30-year streak without winning a local championship.

The FWA revealed that Henderson, who has been out with a knee injury since early July, garnered more than a quarter of the vote. Teammates Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were in contention, along with Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United.
“I would like to say how grateful I am for the support of those who voted for me and for the Football Writers Association in general.” Just look at the past winners, some of whom I have been fortunate enough to play with here at Liverpool, like Stevie (Gerrard), Luis (Suarez) and Mo (Salah), to find out how prestigious it is, “said Henderson.
“But as grateful as I am, I don’t feel like I can accept this on my own. I don’t feel like anything I’ve accomplished this season or in fact throughout my career has been done on my own. I owe a lot to so many different people, but nothing more than my current teammates, who have been amazing and deserve this as much as I do, “he added.
