On date 6 of Super Rugby Aotearoa, Blues had to travel to Wellington to visit Hurricanes. That was when the back of the visit, Beauden Barrett faced his former team against his fans.
Every time Barrett touched the ball, from start to finish, the Hurricanes fans made it known to him. With boos and whistles the Blues back was not well received in Wellington.
Before the seventh date, Barrett expressed himself about it and was not happy at all: “It makes you wonder, doesn’t it? How much can you do for a team and then be received like this?”
“I give you the benefit of the doubt, it could have been booing with a smile on your face at the same time, but nevertheless, I see it as booing,” added the Blues back.
I think it’s pretty bad, I’ve never been a fan of that … when we’ve hosted Australian teams in New Zealand lately, every time that happens I shudder. There is no place for that in rugby in New Zealand, “he said, referring to whistles and boos.
