In recent times, Japan’s Top League has become a regular destination for different stars of world rugby. During these days, Kobelco Steelers announced that it will add the New Zealand world champions Aaron Cruden and Ben Smith.
Now it was the turn of Honda Heat, which this Friday made the future arrivals of four figures from the international arena official: three South Africans (Franco Mostert, Matthys Basson and Jean-Luc du Plessis), and the current Blues player, Matt Duffie.
It should be noted that the recent world champion with the Springboks, Mostert, already has experience playing in the league of the Asian country, since he represented Ricoh Black Rams between 2016 and 2018.
Basson, meanwhile, will join the Heat from the Bulls, while du Plessis will do so after spending four years at Stormers.
After the official announcement of the Japanese club, the 29-year-old second line said: “I was impressed by Honda Heat’s ambition to continue growing. Now I really want to join the team. I have always liked it and I had a great time in Japan. I love their culture. I look forward to this challenge. “
