The English golfer, with a second round of 63 in the English tournament, equaled the Spanish at the top of the competition.
At the end of the second round of Hero open of the European PGA Tour, Sam horsfield and Sebastián García-Rodríguez both leaders of the competition meet.
The latter had come out only after a brilliant opening round with 62, which put him to two of his compatriots Pablo Larrazabal and Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who is competing in their 707th tournament on the European Tour this week.
But neither Jiménez nor Larrazabal could break the pair on this day, the first fell to eight below and the last fell to five below, and it was Horsfield who instead overwhelmed García-Rodríguez with the round of the day to reach 13 under torque for the tournament.
Aided by an Eagle in the fourth, the Englishman took three fewer shots than anyone else at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Birmingham and, more importantly, avoided shooting a shot that was hit by four bogeys on Thursday.
