Ciro Immobile He could not hide his happiness after equaling the record of goals scored in the same season of the A series and to claim the first Golden Boot European of his career.
The Italian striker scored a goal in Lazio’s loss to Napoli on the last day of the Italian league. Thus, he tied Gonzalo Higuain’s record of 36 goals in the same campaign. The Pipa had managed to break Nordahl’s record in 2015/16 when wearing the Napoli shirt.
“I am super happy and proud of what I have accomplished, especially when I look back at where I started and what I went through,” Immobile said for the Lazio Style Channel. “If you really believe, sometimes dreams do come true. I can only thank the coach, staff and my teammates, and I can assure you that these records are for the entire team,” he added.
“I also thank the Lazio fans, who made me feel indispensable to this team, and I am very proud of that. I want to be a living example that if you never give up, you can achieve any goal,” he continued.
And he closed: “I am very proud to have my place in the history of the sport. I am moved to think of how my teammates greeted me in the dressing room after scoring a hat-trick in Verona. That is what the sport is about.”
Lazio, who qualified for the Champions League, finished the season in fourth place in the table.
