While South America Rugby puts all its chips to resume activity in the region through a tournament starring Uruguay, Brazil, Chile and Argentina, the UAR would have to define which team would participate in the contest.
Apparently, the South American would take place in Uruguay between the last 15 days of September and the first 15 of October, only the approval of the Uruguayan government would remain and, prior to the start of the same, the equipment would be installed in the place under the protocol of a sanitary bubble. Recall that rugby has returned to the land of Los Teros and from next Saturday the local tournament will begin.
Taking into account that the sanitary conditions in Uruguay allow us to think about a speedy recovery of the sports activity, SAR is working on the possibility that that country will host the tournament. “The cancellation of the Americas Rugby Championship opens the possibility for us to resume our regional tournaments, taking advantage of the fact that in Uruguay the situation of COVID-19 allows us to dream of international tournaments. We have been working with the national government and the Uruguayan Rugby Union on protocols and systems that must be operating so that the realization of one or more tournaments is safe for players, referees, technical bodies, organizers and, if any, spectators, ”Piñeyrúa said in a South American Rugby publication.
“Competitions are essential in the development of rugby in our countries, they generate interest at all levels and new fans, so we are working from the beginning of the pandemic on safe ways to resume our competitions as soon as possible,” added Sebastián Piñeyrúa, President of South America Rugby.
The main objective of the South American is to give the initial kick for the restart of regional rugby. In addition to the official confirmation, it remains to be seen whether, in the case of accepting the invitation, the UAR would choose to send Argentina XV or Los Pumas in preparation for the Rugby Championship.
