The Alsace club had just reported five diagnosed among the team’s staff, 19 days after the start of the season in France.
Strasbourg confirmed four new cases of coronavirus within the club just 19 days before the start of the 2020/21 season of the Ligue 1.
The Alsace institution had reported five people who had contracted the virus on July 29 and this Tuesday adds a quartet to their account, although they acknowledged that it is part of the sanitation process.
“Unfortunately, these tests confirm what we feared, but we are working closely and fully transparently with the Regional Health Agency,” said the team’s doctor, Francois Pietra.
“The club implements a specific preventive health protocol and we apply all the instructions recommended by the authorities,” added the specialist.
Strasbourg assured that those affected were isolated and will now undergo a period of quarantine. Consequently, the club canceled a friendly against Reims scheduled for Saturday, while it is counting down from the start of the tournament, against Lorient on August 23.
This team finished 10th last season in Ligue 1, although they lacked 10 games to play due to the cancellation of the schedule due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
