“How can the results be negative? We won four titles and we are in the quarterfinals,” said the Paris club’s sports director.
The Champions League is the obsession of Paris Saint-Germain in recent years. After securing its national dominance with the Ligue 1, the French Cup and the League Cup, the club of the French capital can point to Lisbon, where it will face Atalanta on August 12 in the quarterfinals of the continental tournament.
Leonardo prefers to highlight a season that was already successful before putting pressure on the team led by Thomas Tuchel: “How can the results be negative? We won four titles and we are in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. And if we lose, nobody will die” , declared the sports director of PSG in dialogue with L’Equipe.
The Brazilian did not stop there and addressed other current issues. He particularly regretted “the lack of protection of the referees for Mbappé and Neymar”, before judging “that the resumption of Ligue 1 the same weekend as the Champions League final means a European failure of the French clubs”.
Leonardo said he did not want to “make excuses”, but still sent a small message to UEFA about managing the schedule and the resumption of certain championships that favor some teams: “We arrived in different conditions than the others. The first rule established by UEFA is that we must have the same conditions for everyone, and today it is not. “
When it comes to defending his club and his men, Leonardo is immersed in his role as sports director, but there is no doubt that the Brazilian would necessarily be disappointed if he were eliminated from the Champions League quarterfinals.
