The FIA ​​gave rise to a claim filed by Renault and decided to discount the Peter Stroll team 15 points in the constructors’ championship and fine it with 400 thousand euros for understanding that the pink team copied the ventilation ducts used by the RP20 to Mercedes, something prohibited by regulation.

The protest came in July after the Styrian Grand Prix, in which Racing Point duo Sergio Pérez and Lance Stroll finished sixth and seventh respectively. Renault asked the stewards to investigate whether the RP20 was in compliance with the regulations and this Friday the FIA ​​ruled that the vehicle’s brake lines were missing.

The governing body determined that the lead designer of the mechanism was Mercedes, meaning Racing Point had broken the rules by copying the title-winning team in 2019 as the vents are among the “listed components” that each design must design. equipment separately.
