The Real Madrid coach has never lost a tie in the continental tournament. The City player wants to change this statistic.
Five months after the hard defeat against Manchester City, at the Santiago Bernabéu, the time has come to play the return, in England, with an empty stadium and in different conditions. Real Madrid, that from the hand of Zinedine Zidane has never lost a tie in the Champions League, will seek to continue on that path this Friday.
Of course, on the other side will be Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City, which clings to the continental competition, the only thing they lack to win. Of course, despite having the advantage of 2-1, the citizens do not trust a rival who, with his DT in the lead, always comes out victorious.
In fact, in his first season as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti, Zidane won the tenth apricot and when he debuted as head coach he played three editions and in all three he was the best.
Last season, when he returned to the white bench, the club had already lost to Ajax so there were no options to go for a fourth.
Thus, Zidane does not know what it is to lose a Champions League tie as a coach. The technician has passed the 12 series that has included the three finals. Roma, Wolfsburg, Manchester City, PSG, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, Juventus and Atlético de Madrid, on two occasions, are part of their long list of victims although they had never had to face Guardiola.
The Catalan already has 28 victories in Champions League qualifying matches. He could even become the third coach to manage to eliminate Madrid twice in the European Cup as Marcello Lippi and Ottmar Hitzfeld already did.
In addition, Zidane will face his weak point in the competition, the English teams, since he has only won two of his six matches against rivals from that country.
It will be an interesting clash that surely, after 90 minutes (or if there are more) will leave new records and only one club in the quarterfinals.
