The coach hopes that both players will renew their contracts with Rossonero for next season.
Stefano pioli “can’t imagine” to Milan without Gianluigi Donnarumma and is convinced that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will stay one more season. Both players are discussing the renewal of their respective contracts with Rossonero.
The goalkeeper made his debut at the age of 16 in 2015-16 and has a contract with the Milan club until 2021, while the link that the Swedish striker signed in January has already expired. The coach, who agreed to a two-year extension last month, is eager for both players to continue on the roster.
“I cannot imagine a Milan without Donnarumma. He is 21 years old, already has experience and has even been a captain. He is already among the three or four best goalkeepers in the world and he will become the best,” said Pioli in dialogue with La Repubblica.
He added: “Ibrahimovic makes everything easy. It is wrong to talk about age with him. He is 100% professional and makes every training competitive. Paolo (Maldini), (Ivan) Gazidis, Massara and I are convinced that he should continue with us. From an economic point of view, it is good that I stay on the sidelines, but we are all aware of what he has given us. “
Milan finished the 2019-20 campaign with 13 straight games without a loss in all competitions, following their return to action in June. Pioli was rewarded with a new contract and insists he paid little attention to speculation that Ralf Rangnick would replace him at the end of the season.
“Gazidis and the Elliott fund kept their word. They had told me they would judge me at the end of the season. There was no point wasting energy on things I couldn’t control. I haven’t seen how Rangnick’s teams play. I just focused on my own I work with my players and staff, “he concluded.
