The Catalan coach said goodbye to the Champions League with City for the third consecutive time in the same instance.
Pep Guardiola still dreams of putting Manchester City at least in the semifinals of Champions League, a goal that will not be possible after being eliminated by Lyon in a 3-1 defeat in Lisbon.
“One day we are going to break this gap to the semifinals,” the Catalan coach told the media about the last three goodbyes of the Citizens in the quarterfinals. In addition, in his first season in charge of the team, in 16/17, he only reached the eighth.
“We are going to try again, football gives you other opportunities, sometimes there are clubs that need to break a barrier that is quarterfinals,” Guardiola insisted. However, he clarified: “This group deserves it, although they already did it with (Manuel) Pellegrini (on 16/15). Maybe one day we will get over it.”
Regarding the development of the game, the coach commented: “In the first half we needed to find the spaces, they wait and attack you with frontal balls. In the second half we were good, we finished more, but in this competition you cannot make mistakes.”
“We are disappointed. Now we are going on vacation. Then we have to lift the players when they come back to the club.”
