Free of any contract since leaving PSG, the Uruguayan returned to Europe on Sunday and is expected to join the Portuguese team.
The future of Edinson cavani, former forward of PSG, seems to be written on the Lisbon side. According to the Spanish newspaper AS, his arrival at the Portuguese team should become effective in the next few hours, with a three-year contract in the Stadium of Light.
Although he did not want to confirm the move, the 33-year-old Uruguayan forward spoke to the press from Montevideo airport, before returning to Europe. “There have been meetings with Benfica and other clubs, but nothing has been defined yet so I cannot say that an agreement has been reached. When everything is confirmed with a team, people will know,” he said.
He added: “Benfica is a great team, always competitive. Many good players have passed through. If I am lucky enough to be able to go there, I would be happy. If the coach calls me, I will be delighted to speak with him.”
“At the moment I am calm. I am now flying to Europe and we will see this new stage of my life,” Cavani closed.
