Mid Wales and Dragons Jamie Roberts tested positive for Covid-19 a few days before the planned resumption of the PRO14 season, according to British media reports.
The BBC reported that the 33-year-old, who joined the Dragons from the Stormers earlier this month, has been placed in isolation and will not be in action when the Dragons take on the Ospreys at Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
Roberts, who is a qualified medical doctor, returned to Wales after Super Rugby was indefinitely postponed and began working for the National Health Service as a volunteer in April to help fight the coronavirus.
A statement posted on the Dragons official website said: “Dragons Rugby has returned a positive case of COVID-19 in the Welsh Rugby testing program in the round of tests that were taken the week beginning Monday 11 August.
“All subsequent Welsh Government and Public Health guidelines are being followed and the individual, who is symptom-free and in good health, is currently isolated.
“Dragons Rugby is part of the larger Welsh Rugby Union selection program which has conducted over 1,100 tests to date as part of the return to training / play process.
