From the Netherlands they talk about Koeman's interest in taking Wijnaldum to Barça

The 29-year-old midfielder has played for Liverpool since 2016 and knows the now-former Netherlands coach well.

It barely takes 24 hours in Barcelona and versions about the intentions of Ronald Koeman in the transfer window. And the first of them, coincidentally, comes from Holland.

Specifically, the newspaper AD reports that the former coach of the orange team would have the objective of signing Georginio Wijnaldum, current in Liverpool. He is a 29-year-old midfielder, whom the brand new coach of Blaugrana knows perfectly and who has all his confidence, since he is international with his country.

According to the aforementioned media, the Rotterdam-born and the Premier club did not reach an agreement on the extension of the footballer’s contract, which should have occurred in recent months. The talks did not prosper and the footballer still does not extend his contract with the Reds, so he would be released on June 30, 2021.

The information that the Goal site handles in circles close to Liverpool is that, right now, Wijnaldum is unlikely to become a Barça player at this time. The scenario could change if in the future, the Anfield entity decided to sign Thiago Alcántara for its midfield. Along the same lines, Liverpool has Wijnaldum and does not want to get rid of it or put it on the market.

Koeman knows he will feature Miralem Pjanic next season, but would like to add Wijnaldum as a squire for Frenkie De Jong in midfield. He would quickly adapt to what the Dutch strategist is asking for, complement well with De Jong and give instant performance.
