Official: Stade Francais vs. Bordeaux, postponed

The cases of Coronavirus that affected the Stade Francais squad in the preseason finally caused the LNR to officially announce that the first game of the Parisian team is postponed. The match against Bordeaux was scheduled to open the resumption of the Top 14 next Friday, but now it will have to wait and the new date could be September 26 or 27.

“The health of the players is the highest priority. The conditions to guarantee the safety of the players are not met. The disciplinary committee will determine the responsibility of the SFP for its handling of the offseason,” added the official communication.

In addition, since the extreme situation that the Stade Francais was experiencing was at the origin of this postponement “outside the Covid protocol”, the LNR decided to seize the disciplinary commission concerning the Parisian club. Objective: to define if the Stade Français has effectively respected the sanitary protocols decreed, in particular isolation and individual training (or in small groups) after the first cases detected, or if in the club’s training sessions, the Parisians have passed said sanitary protocol .

Stade Francais has Gonzalo Quesada as head coach and Nicolás Sánchez, Pablo Matera and Marcos Kremer on the squad. Santiago Corder and Guido Petti play in Bordeaux.

The League’s press release:

Given the exceptional circumstances linked to the Covid19 epidemic at the origin of this situation, postponement of the match seemed the only possible decision. If Union Bordeaux-Bègles do not win their quarter-finals of the European Challenge, the match will be played on the weekend of September 26-27, during which the semi-finals of the European Cup will be played. If the Bordeaux-Bègles Union qualifies for these semi-finals, the match will take place on another date to be fixed later.

In addition, the Bureau decided to refer the matter of the President of the LNR to the disciplinary and regulatory commission to determine the responsibility of the Stade Français Paris in this situation with regard to its management of the preseason and for the committee to extract the consequences it deems appropriate.
