AFC Cup canceled and Champions matches delayed

The executive committee of the Asian Confederation, meeting electronically, has decided to cancel the second continental competition, the AFC Cup, and delay the Champions League matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The AFC governing group, chaired by Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, recognized that the coronavirus has affected the organization to develop competitions and, having as a priority the well-being of young players, as well as travel problems, it is canceled the option of being able to play the AFC Cup in four host countries, as had been studied.

The committee also agreed that some Champions League matches scheduled for next week will also be postponed a few weeks and that the final will be played in the western part of the continent on December 19, to a single game, and not to a double encounter with the traditional local and visitor format.

It also decided that the Asian futsal championship be played in Kuwait, but it is delayed from November to December (2-13) to give the participating associations time to prepare, as well as the continental tournament of futsal clubs was suspended and will be played in the United Arab Emirates in 2021m, and the U16 and U19 football matches, which were to be played in Bahrain and Uzbekistan, respectively, which will take place in early 2021.
