Solid debut for Gustavo Fernández at the US Open

Gustavo Fernández had a debut according to his expectations and made a solid progress to the semifinals of the United States Open.

The Rio Tercero born, current world number 2 in his specialty, got rid of Frenchman Stephane Houder, sixth in the same ranking, with partial 6-4 and 6-1, in one hour and 19 minutes of play.

Fernández, who won the Australian Open twice, Roland Garros and once celebrated at Wimbledon, is seeking his first consecration at the US Open.

His next rival will be the British Alfie Hewett, third best player in the world, who in the quarterfinals eliminated his compatriot Gordon Reid.
