Juan Pablo Ángel holds the record of being the top Colombian scorer in Argentine soccer with 62 annotations, above Falcao who scored 45 goals. Ángel arrived at the Millionaire team after passing through Atlético Nacional.
The Colombian assured that he rejected an offer from Spain and chose River for one reason: “This will sound like a silly excuse but I chose River because I am a River fan, at that time my dream was to play with that team and in the end going to River was one of the best decisions of my career ”.
Ángel was on the Cruzada gang team from 1997 to 2000 and played 132 games. However, the Colombian striker remembers Ramón Díaz as a key piece in his training: “I was fortunate to have Ramón Díaz as a coach, much of the information I acquired to perfect things was taught to me by him, the industry, the football and how to play under pressure. I perfected many things and I was able to adapt ”.
“The semester I arrived in Argentina in River, Francescoli had left and they had sold Salas, anyone who came to replace these figures had to have very important numbers. I was lucky and ended up scoring more goals than Salas in River, I ended up being the third historic scorer in the Copa Libertadores for River, “added Ángel on ESPN Radio.
The Colombian also remembered a special day with River: the time he started, scored a goal and also covered: “We can hardly reach the Spanish court, what that game meant was very big because River had just won the three-time championship. I scored the goal and then I ended up covering because they expelled Bonano, an anecdote that I will not forget and that I will always have in my memory ”, he concluded.
