After so much uncertainty, SANZAAR finally officially announced that the 2020 Rugby Championship will be played in Australia.
The matches will be played in New South Wales and Queensland between November 7 and December 12. In this way, the tournament will consist of 12 games, which will be distributed over six weeks.
SANZAAR CEO Andy Marinos stated: “We are delighted that we are finally able to confirm the participants and the host country of the Rugby Championship, thus ending continued speculation about the format and location of the Rugby Championship.”
Marinos also explained the reason for the decision to have the competition take place on Aussie lands, taking into account that, originally, New Zealand was the main candidate: “SANZAAR finally determined that, according to the protocols required by the government, Australia was the most viable option in terms of logistics. “
Likewise, the very entity that regulates the Southern Hemisphere tournament questioned the participation of the Springboks and anticipated that it will depend on the evolution of the pandemic situation in South Africa in the coming weeks.
