Luka Romero, Under 15 international with Argentina, is “focused” on the goals he has set for Mallorca and, for now, he is not affected by the first attempts of the director of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Miquel Bestard, so that the young pearl of the vermilion quarry defends the Red shirt in the future, according to the Majorcan coach Luis García Plaza.
“Luka is a phenomenon. He is more focused than some who are older and seems like a true veteran,” Garcia Plaza said at the press conference prior to his team’s debut in the League of the second division of Spanish football, on Sunday before Rayo Vallecano.
Bestard, president of the Management Commission of the RFEF and top leader of football in the Balearic Islands, confessed that “we have to work on” the possibility of Luka Romero playing in the lower categories of the Spanish team, despite the fact that he “wants to play with Argentina, “he admitted.
The Mallorca coach, for his part, said he had not touched on “that issue” with Luka. “Because if I speak and look for more stories, I can de-center it.”
“I want that on Sunday, if he plays from the beginning or has to come in for a while, he does it as he is doing until now, with self-confidence and the joy that he is giving us,” he added.
Luka, a Mexican born in the city of Durango and an Argentine family, made history last season by becoming the youngest footballer when he made his debut in the First Division, at 15 years and 229 days.
With a style of play very similar to that of Barcelona’s Leo Messi, the international midfielder is considered a player with a great future, a whole diamond in the rough of the Majorcan youth academy.
“Although things are coming out there (related to his future) I see him with a very furnished head; in addition, his environment is also good. What has really surprised me is his maturity,” said García Plaza.
