(EFE) – Leeds United, on their return to the Premier League and led by Marcelo Bielsa, was close to drawing an Anfield draw against Liverpool this Saturday and only gave in in the last minutes thanks to a penalty scored by the Egyptian Mohamed Salah (4-3).
In a crazy game, Marcelo Bielsa’s men showed their power upstairs and their defensive fragility, the same symptoms as a Liverpool that was a few minutes away from committing the first puncture of the season.
Jürgen Klopp’s men promised them very happily when three minutes into the game, a shot by Mohamed Salah crashed into Koch’s hand and the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
The Egyptian himself converted it by throwing it strong and to the center and advanced to the ‘Reds’. It looked like a win was coming, but Leeds were quick to respond.
In the 12th minute, a long pass from Kalvin Phillips punctured Harrison on the left wing, with two touches he sped away from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez before finishing with a low shot at Alisson’s short post.
The game turned into an exercise in action and reaction and the 2-1 headed by Virgil Van Dijk was followed by a tremendous error by the Dutchman by wanting to control instead of clearing and Patrick Bramford made it 2-2.
Before the break, a free kick from the box fell to Salah who doubled with a strong shot from the corner.
The second half did not solve Liverpool’s doubts and just over 20 minutes to go, Leeds, who saw Rodrigo Moreno make his debut from the bench, filtered a pass into the area, Mateusz Klich controlled and impaled the ball to make the 3 -3.
Liverpool was seen on the ropes, but was saved in the final minutes, when Rodrigo knocked down Fabinho inside the area and Salah made his first hat trick of the season from eleven meters.
Liverpool lift what would have been the first setback of the year and put all three points on their scoreboard, matching at the top of the table with the other two teams that won this Saturday, Arsenal and Fulham.
