The drastic reduction in the prize money of Rome

The pandemic crisis of the coronavirus affected the entire world. And tennis, of course, was no exception. It is well evidenced in the Masters 1000 and Premier 5 in Rome, the tournaments that are played this week in the male and female branch of the circuit.

The total prize money of the tournament for men is 3,465,045 euros, which represents a reduction of 33.5% compared to 2019. Whoever wins the tournament, meanwhile, will receive a total of € 205,200, which concerns a strong drop of 78.58% compared to last season.

In return, and as an aid for players who do not have a good ranking, the first round prize will be € 21,190, which represents an increase of 11.5% compared to what the players pocketed a year ago.

Regarding the ladies, the money they will receive was also drastically reduced compared to last year: the winner will receive a check for € 205,190 with a decrease of 60.83% compared to 2019. However, as happened with the men, the first round prize money had an increase of 14.23% with a total of € 9,000.
