Joaquín Niemann had a solid start at the US Open led by Thomas

The Chilean Joaquín Niemann completed this Thursday the first round of the United States Open with a card of 68 strokes (-2), which left him in eighth place, three impacts behind the leader, the American Justin Thomas (65, -5) .

Niemann, 21, scored four birdies in the first part of the round. But in the second he made a ‘bogey’, in the 10th hole and then repeated in the 13th.

Niemann’s performance was superior this Thursday compared to that of Colombian Sebastián Muñoz and Mexican Abraham Ancer.

Muñoz, 27, delivered a 71-stroke card (+1) at the end of his tour of the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck (New York).

The man from Bogotá committed two consecutive ‘bogeys’ on holes 1 and 2.

In the ninth he achieved his first ‘birdie’, to reach the second half of the course and alternate ‘bogey’ and ‘birdie’ twice that left him with 4 and 3 at the end of his morning session.

The 29-year-old Mexican Ancer, who started the tour with three consecutive bogeys, got his first birdie in the sixth.

In the second half of the round he scored two birdies, but on the 18th hole he made his fourth bogey.

Muñoz and Ancer occupy provisionally 34th place in the rankings.
