Gareth Bale's agent lashed out at Real Madrid: "they should kiss the ground on which he walks"

Jonathan Barnett, manager of Bale, came out in defense of the player’s achievements as a white player

Gareth Bale’s agent has criticized Real Madrid for not appreciating the Welsh international’s achievements at the club, declaring that “they should kiss the ground he walks on.”

Bale, who left Real Madrid this week after seven years and returned to Tottenham Hotspur on loan for one season, won 13 titles in the Spanish capital, but was often criticized by the press for his passion for golf.

“This country, Britain, should be very proud of him and stop criticizing him and writing about what he has done and what he has achieved,” Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett told talkSPORT: “And it’s very annoying, and it’s the same with the Real Madrid, what he’s accomplished with them, they should be kissing the ground he’s walking on. “

Bale, 31, won four Champions League, two LaLiga titles and three FIFA Club World Cups, plus other trophies; and scored 105 goals in 251 games.

In the previous campaign, Bale only started 14 games for Madrid amid reports of a difficult relationship with coach Zinedine Zidane and the club’s fans.

“For someone who has achieved what he has achieved with the club in seven years, he should have been treated better,” Barnett told the BBC. “I think what the fans did was a shame and the club didn’t help. It could have been treated better and I’m very upset that it wasn’t.”

Bale was on the verge of leaving the ‘White House’ in 2019 and leaving for football in China to play for Jiangsu Suning before Madrid canceled the transfer at the last minute.

“I’m not going to blame people for not helping,” Barnett said. “In my opinion, he was not treated properly as someone who has done so much for a great club. I think things were bad. It was an unhappy period.”

Bale’s contract with Madrid expires in June 2022, but the option to remain with Spurs beyond next summer is open.

“This is the club he wants to play for,” Barnett said. “I don’t see any problem if he wants to stay another year.

“He has one year left [después del próximo verano en su contrato con el Madrid], so we have to see, but hopefully the topic [de regresar al Real Madrid] do not pose. He wants to stay and it will be an easy deal to do the rest.

“I took care of Gareth since he was a child and seeing the smile on his face was fantastic for me, it was special.”
