The seven operations that Del Potro had in his career

Juan Martín del Potro birthday and surely the wish he will have when blowing out the candles will be not to enter an operating room again. The Argentine, former world No. 3, had a new operation a few weeks ago, this being the seventh, on his right knee.

The Tower of Tandil, which was operated by the team led by Dr. Roland Biedert in Bern, Switzerland, could have had an even more successful track record. The damn injuries were a stick in the wheel. For now only that …

He had his first surgery in May 2010, months after his big blow, winning the US Open 2009, with an easy victory over Spanish Rafael Nadal in the semifinal and against Federer in the final. There he was operated on the ulnar tendon of the carpal extensor of the right wrist, his skillful one.

He then underwent three operations on his left wrist: in March 2014 (joint), in January 2015 (ligament) and in June 2015 (tendon).

His knee was injured in a fall in October 2018, when he faced Croatian Borna Coric at the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai. As a result, he underwent surgery for the fracture of the right patella in June 2019, he repeated in the area in January of this year and now he had the third in said knee and the seventh in total.

The Argentine followed the recommendations of his doctors and even demanded the knee on a field in Buenos Aires, but the pain in the area never stopped. That is why Biedert advised him to have a new surgery. Now, to take patience again for another dream comeback to the circuit.
