What of Hugo Gaston in Roland Garros it seems like a dream. Probably one so good that you don’t want to wake up. This French southpaw beat the 2016 champion, Stan Wawrinka, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, 4-6 and 6-0 to the delirium of the local public who see a new star appear in such a prolific sky.
Currently, Gaston is the number 239th in the world ranking and he is making his first weapons on the professional circuit. So much so that, thanks to the wild card provided by the FFT (French Tennis Federation) was able to win his first match at ATP level.
As a junior, Gaston reached the top of the ITF ranking in September 2018. In that year he had a brief but very successful stint in Buenos Aires. There, obtained the gold medal of the Youth Olympic Games in singles after defeating 6-3 and 7-5 in the final to Facundo Díaz Acosta.
Besides JJOO, in 2017 the Frenchman was crowned champion of the prestigious and historic tournament Orange bowl, which takes place every end of the season in the United States.
Already in his professional stage, in 2019 he made the great leap by crowning himself in three Futures tournaments, all of the 25k category, those that allowed him to achieve his current location.
In round of 16 you will have a major challenge when you face Dominic Thiem. Can Gaston cheer France up and hit the big hit of the tournament?
