The third line of England Courtney Lawes the calendar of the european autumn of six games for his country after confirming that he will be off the pitch for 12 weeks for an ankle injury.
The Northampton star, who has played 85 international matches, was injured during the Premiership game of the Saints vs. Sale Sharks last week .
In a statement, Northampton said: “Northampton Saints can confirm that, following consultation between the club’s medical staff and a specialist, Courtney Lawes to undergo surgery on ankle injury suffered against Sale Sharks last week.
“England’s 31-year-old third line will require a rehabilitation period of approximately 12 weeks.”
It adds to the already confirmed decline of Manu Tuilagi, facing six months off after sustaining an Achilles tendon injury in the same game eight days ago. Both players were starters in the World Cup final against South Africa and remain an integral part of Jones’ plans.
England will play the Barbarians on October 25, followed by their delayed 2020 Six Nations clash against Italy in Rome six days later.
Eddie Jones’s men will then face off for the dates of the Fall Nations Cup with Georgia, Ireland and Wales, plus a Nations Cup play-off game in early December.
