Santiago Arias, right back of the Colombian National Team, suffered a severe injury in the first half of the match against Venezuela for the first date of the South American Qualifier. The Colombian was replaced by Stefan Medina.
The 8th minute of the game passed when Santiago Arias disputed a divided ball in defense with Darwin Machís that ended in a serious injury to the Colombian player. Arias stepped badly in the dispute for the ball and showing gestures of pain could not continue the game.
James, Cuadrado and Mina immediately requested the substitution for the right-back who had to be removed on a stretcher and in his place Stefan Medina entered. Confirmation of the severity of the injury is awaited by the medical team of the Colombian National Team.
The central referee had sent off the Venezuelan attacker after the clash, but after a VAR review he annulled the red card after noting that there was no infraction.
