There are no doubts: Sam querrey is the tennis player of the moment. The American player, as a result of what happened in Saint Petersburg, is on everyone’s lips, although his whereabouts are not known.
But who is this American that left Russia without authorization?
Currently 49th in the world, it became 11th ATP in February 2018, at which point his best results were accumulated in the most important tournaments: the 2007 Wimbledon semifinals, the 2017 US Open quarters and the 2018 Indian Wells quarters.
Also in 2017, the 33-year-old San Francisco-born won his last 2 ATP tournaments: Acapulco (triumph over Rafael Nadal in the final) and Los Cabos. Since 2008 he has totaled 10 titles and played 9 ATP finals.
But earlier, in 2016, his name went around the world when he defeated Novak Djokovic in the third round at Wimbledon, cutting the Serb’s streak of four consecutive titles and 30 wins in Grand Slam tournaments
The 1.98 meter man also has 5 titles in doubles and even a mixed doubles final at the 2015 US Open.
