Lance Stroll is having a very bad time in the 2020 season of Formula 1. The Canadian rider started the year very strong and even achieved a podium at the Monza Grand Prix. However, a few weeks ago he confirmed that he was positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) and the team Racing point shot him.
Since Sergio perez announced that he will not be in the Racing Point team next year, Stroll did not score points in the races held. Furthermore, since the news of his positive COVID-19, was the protagonist of several incidents. At the last Grand Prix at Imola, Stroll ran over a mechanic which fortunately had no physical consequences.
The Racing Point Team Principal Engineer, Andrew Green, launched some criticism of the Canadian pilot. “Obviously he is not where he used to be; from getting on the podium at Monza to the position he is in now. There is an evident lack of confidence that we are going to have to work on over the next week to try to bring his best version back, “said Green.
COVID is responsible
On the other hand, Green assures that the positive of the pandemic virus is responsible for the performance of Stroll. “I think the virus has knocked him out, it’s something we couldn’t foresee. We’ve done some research on how long it takes to recover from the virus and I think it’s taking a while. He needs to gain confidence again, to believe in himself and he will go back to being the one we had during the first two thirds of the season, ”he said.
Lastly, Racing Point’s chief engineer commented that the Mugello GP was important for his fitness. “It is evident that he has taken a good physical and mental beating. The Mugello accident was very strong, so I think it is likely that it has sapped his confidence and he could not be in shape in the next couple of races, “he said.
