Brazilian defender Dani Alves recalled that after leaving Barcelona for Juventus, he always had the desire to return to the Barça team; however, there was a factor that prevented it.
“I went to Juve to show that I had Barça level. I knew they needed me and I knew I wanted to be there (in Barcelona), because it is my home, it is what I love. And I told them, because I knew I was not going to continue at Juve, the first months there were the worst.
“That’s why I didn’t want to say goodbye to Barça. I’m not going to say goodbye to a place that I think is my home. I wanted to go back to Barça and they needed me, but they didn’t have the balls (sic) to admit that they were wrong with me, “he said in an interview with RAC1.
The right-back assured that he would have returned “for free” to Barça, but the board at that time did not accept that he made a mistake by letting him out.
“They needed me and I needed them because I loved Barça. He was not going to continue at Juventus. I came back for free ”, he reiterated.
In the same interview, Alves also recalled how he arrived at Paris Saint-Germain, which cost him a disagreement with Pep Guardiola.
“I had an agreement to go to City and the family weighed. I had an agreement with Pep, which by the way was spiteful afterwards: I called and he didn’t want to ”.
Finally, Dani Alves rejected that he had influenced Neymar so that the forward left Barcelona to sign for PSG who paid the millionaire exit clause he had in the Barça team.
“How was he going to get Ney out of Barça if I was the one who convinced him to go to Barça.”
