Celta de Vigo is looking for a new coach in the market after the dismissal of Óscar García Junyent, the sixteenth first-team manager to be fired since Carlos Mouriño assumed the club’s presidency in 2006, the fifth in the last three years. And that name may be that of the Argentine coach Eduardo Chacho Coudet.
BOMB! According to Cadena Cope, it is reported that Chacho Coudet will be Celta de Vigo’s coach. There is still nothing official, but in Porto Alegre, Inter fans are manifesting themselves on the networks: furious with the directive at the possible departure of the Argentine DT. His good campaign with the leading team of Brasileirao and qualified for the next round of the Cup, caught the attention of Celta de Vigo, after throwing out Oscar García, their coach. Coudet played in said Spanish club and the press indicates that he is the main candidate and that there have already been several contacts with him.
This Sunday, after the tie against Coritiba, the Argentine was asked at the press conference about Celta’s alleged interest but he kicked the ball out. “I will focus on what the game was and not on what is said about me. Celta is a club in which I played, I can not say anything else about it. They have a coach,” he said.
Of course, that situation changed this Monday when the Vigo team announced the dismissal of Oscar García due to the bad campaign: Balaídos’s team is 17th in the league table, just one step above the three clubs that descend from category.
In Brazil they assure that Chacho is not happy at Inter and that he has even made his resignation available. This is due to differences with the directors regarding the assembly of the campus and the operations carried out during the last transfer market. This annoyance could give the final blow to the passage of the Argentine DT through the Porto Alegre team and open the doors to the Spanish League.
At the moment, Coudet has great challenges ahead with Inter: at the end of the month he will face the round of 16 series of the Copa Libertadores against Boca Juniors. In the local tournament, meanwhile, those from Porto Alegre are at the top of the standings with one point more than Atlético Mineiro, which has one game less.
How was the departure of Oscar García
The Catalan coach, who was renewed last summer for two seasons, has been dismissed when the league course is still in the ninth day, with the team out of the relegation zone and after signing his best performance of the season at Martínez Valero despite not passing the draw against Elche (1-1).
Óscar García’s desire to remove the CEO, Antonio Chaves, from decision-making in the sports area ended up distancing him from a good part of the board of directors, despite the fact that until the last moment he continued to have the support of the president, Carlos Mouriño.
But the club’s maximum shareholder ended up giving in to pressure and this morning, taking advantage of the break that LaLiga Santander will experience due to the international commitments of the teams, he took the step of relieving the Sabadell coach.
It is the third consecutive season in which Celta dismisses a coach during the championship, after the departures of Antonio Mohamed and Miguel Cardoso in the 2019-20 championship and that of Fran Escribá in the next.
But, perhaps, the most worrying thing is that the celestial team has become a crusher of coaches since the Argentine Eduardo “Toto” Berizzo decided to undertake a new adventure away from Balaídos in 2017.
“I made a huge effort to stay in a place that I adore,” said Eduardo Berizzo, the coach who guided Celta to two consecutive semi-finals of the Copa del Rey and a historic semi-final of the Europa League against Manchester United that same year.
Since his departure, only Óscar García for just five days has managed to spend more than a year on the Vigo bench. Juan Carlos Unzué endured the entire season but did not complete his second year of contract, while Antonio Mohamed, Miguel Cardoso and Fran Escribá were fired months after taking office.
“We have to look more at the navel and less at the coach, we have four coaches in two seasons, we will be doing something wrong,” said Spanish international Iago Aspas after the hard defeat against Real Sociedad (1-4).
The sports director, Felipe Miñambres, and the general director, Antonio Chaves, have been looking for a replacement for Óscar for weeks. They negotiated with Marcelino García Toral but the Asturian rejected the offer.
Argentine Eduardo Coudet, a former player in the sky and current coach of the International of Brazil, is now the main candidate to fill the Balaídos bench, in what would be his first experience as a coach in European football after passing through Argentina, Mexico and Brazil.
