Flamengo announced this Monday the untying of the Spanish coach Doménec Torrent, after the 4-0 win inflicted on them by Atlético Mineiro on Sunday and which adds to the bad results of the team in the last matches of the Brazilian Championship and CONMEBOL Libertadores.
“The Flamengo Regatta Club reports that Domènec Torrent and his coaching staff no longer command the club’s main team“, published the Rio de Janeiro entity on its portal Twitter.
Added to the defeat he suffered on Sunday in Belo Horizonte against the leader Atlético Mineiro, by Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, the 4-1 that Sao Paulo gave him the previous day, two results that provoked the anger of the fans with him Spanish coach.
Despite the fact that, in general performance, Flamengo achieved a good performance with Torrent in the League, the team failed to lead the Championship, where with 35 points, the same for International, it occupies third place on goal difference and one from the leader.
The departure of Torrent, who led for three months, was requested by many fans since Flamengo was humiliated 5-0 by the Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle in the Libertadores group stage.
The Spanish coach says goodbye to Flamengo after 26 games, in which the team achieved 15 wins, 5 draws and 6 losses.
Torrent, who arrived in Flamengo at the beginning of August, replaced the Portuguese Jorge Jesús, who in 13 months led the squad to win six titles, including the Brazilian League and the 2019 Copa Libertadores with a colorful offensive game to which he added possession of the ball and tactical rigor.
According to local Brazilian media, the former Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogério Ceni, current coach of Fortaleza, is one of the candidates for the position.
