Unfortunately, the motor world is shocked by a tragic accident that occurred on the historic circuit of Interlagos, in Brazil. During a motorcycling race of Superbike, in the South American country, the incident occurred that would take the life of the pilot Matheus Barbosa. The pilot lost his life almost immediately.
After a very difficult year for the category, safety measures were improved several times to avoid accidents. In the last season there were two fatal accidents of this type, on the same circuit, which generated controversy and jeopardized the continuity of Interlagos in the SuperBike calendar in that country.
Barbosa had been fighting position with another pilot, when his Kawasaki had a whiplash that the driver could not control. At the Juncao curve, the motorcycle could not brake and crashed hard with a metal structure that was outside the track and behind the retaining walls.
In 2019, Mauricio Padulete Y Danilo Berto they had severe accidents in which they lost their lives instantly. Both drivers lost suffered their accidents at the Interlagos circuit. However, the authorities considered the security measures taken optimal. The category came to suspend testing for a time.
After the accident, the category released a statement giving details of what happened. “Matheus was treated by the medical team in less than 60 seconds. Still, despite all his efforts, he couldn’t resist his injuries. The causes are still unknown and are being investigated. Out of respect for Matheus, and his family, all activities for the day were immediately canceled and the race was interrupted by a red flag.
