The Uruguayan Soccer Association confirmed to ESPN that the players Alexis Rolín and Diego Rossi tested positive for swabs made after the match between Uruguay and Brazil for the Qualifiers towards Qatar 2022. In total, there are seven people who had a positive result for COVID 19 in the last tests of the Celeste delegation; the other five cases are officials of the AUF, among them Dr. Alberto Pan (head of the national team) and a member of the props team.
It should be noted that Master Óscar Tabárez tested negative and is complying with the corresponding quarantine, mandatory after each international match.
On Saturday night the results determined that the only member of the Uruguayan delegation with a positive for coronavirus was Matías Viña. The alarms went off immediately because of the speed that this virus can be transmitted. Despite Viña’s efforts and immediate isolation, soccer players Luis Suárez and Rodrigo Muñoz, and press secretary Matías Faral also tested positive on Monday.
On Tuesday Uruguay faced Brazil, lost 2-0 and the entire delegation had to do a new swab once the match was over. This Wednesday morning it was learned that seven other tests marked the presence of the virus in different members of the National Team, among them the footballers Diego Rossi (from Los Angeles FC) and Alexis Rolín (defender of Rentistas) and Dr. Alberto Pan.
ESPN was informed that Rossi and Rolín are the only two players to test positive for coronavirus in these latest swabs.
