In the last hours a news that shook motor sport was confirmed. Franco Morbidelli will change the motorcycle from MotoGP, for a rally car, at least for a date. The Italian confirmed this morning that he will participate in the Monza Rally, which is the last date on the World Rally Championship calendar (WRC). This occurs hours after Valentino rossi confirm that he will compete in an endurance race.
The Monza Rally will take place from December 3 to 6 in Italy, on the historic circuit. His partner for next year and mentor, Valentino Rossi, has already participated in this test that takes place at the end of each season. Valentino achieved victory in the event seven times, in the years 2006, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Morbidelli confirmed this morning that he will do the same at the controls of a Hyundai i20 r5. In addition, it will do so in the WRC3 category, the third most important in the championship. The event is a scoring date of the championship, but it is usually done as a show, to give a nice closing to each WRC season. That is why many celebrities take part in the Rally.
Happy for the opportunity
The Italian-Brazilian commented that this opportunity was not expected and that he wants it to arrive as quickly as possible. “I am excited about the possibility of participating in a real test of the World Rally Championship. This will be an incredible opportunity to be among the best drivers in the world and compete in a different sport. However, it will be a lot of fun, I will have to learn a lot of details quickly and it will not be easy to adapt to two more wheels in such a short time.
On the other hand, Morbidelli assured that he will seek to arrive in the best way to try to match the milestone that Valentino achieved a few years ago. “When they called me, I didn’t think twice. These are possibilities that rarely arise in life. I will follow a crash course in Umberto Scandola (Hyundai driver) to arrive as prepared as possible for the first test, “he said.
