The Norwegian Erling Braut Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) won the Golden Boy 2020 this Saturday, the award given by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport to the best U21 player of the year who plays in a European league, in a classification in which the Spanish Ansu Fati (Barcelona) finished second, and the Brazilian Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) was tenth.
Haaland, twenty years old and the author of 34 goals last season, lived first at Salzburg and then at Dortmund, succeeded the Portuguese Joao Félix, from Atlético Madrid, who was crowned in 2019.
The Norwegian international striker sports a scoring average of 0.97 goals per game in 2020 and was chosen by a court made up of forty journalists from the main Italian and international media and will receive the award at an event organized on December 14 in Turin.
Barcelona’s talent Ansu Fati, 18, finished in second place, although it was the one that received the most votes among the fans who participated in the online survey of the Turin newspaper.
The podium was completed by the Canadian Alphonso Davies, 20, a left back who won everything with Bayern Munich in the last campaign, and as the protagonist.
Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, 20, while Ferrán Torres, from Manchester City and former Valencia player, finished eleventh in a classification in which the Brazilian, also a Real Madrid player, Rodrygo Goes, qualified sixteenth.
In the list of winners of this award are the Dutch Rafael Van Der Vaart, elected best young man in the first edition, 2003, the Argentines Lionel Messi (2005), Sergio Agüero (2007) or the Spanish Cesc Fábregas (2006) and Isco Alarcón (2012).
