Alejandro Sabella did not have a long career as a coach. He directed Estudiantes, at club level, and the Argentine National Team.
However, he had a Extensive career as a field assistant for a benchmark for River and the national team, such as Daniel Alberto Passarella.
Pachorra, who left football in 1989, spent 15 years with the Kaiser, from whom he learned many of the things that he later applied when he became a coach.
He accompanied the Great Captain in his stage with the Millionaires, and then with the Argentine national team (where he was at the 1998 World Cup in France), the Uruguayan national team, Parma, Monterrey Y Corinthians.
From the hand of the former captain of the 1978 World Cup champion team, Sabella shared many titles: three with River at the local level, another with Monterrey and also a gold medal at the 1995 Pan American Games and a silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
With Passarella, Américo Gallego was the visible face of the aide-de-camp. But Sabella was doing important work. With a much lower profile, was in charge of analyzing the work of rivals.
Finally, on March 15, 2009 he was encouraged: he became the coach of Estudiantes de La Plata. The experience had served a lot, something that it showed in the short term.
With the lion, he won the Copa Libertadores de América and in the final of the Club World Cup he was a few minutes away from defeating Messi’s Barcelona. It was also consecrated local tournament champion. His ability, and those triumphs, led him to the National Team.
The relationship with Passarella was born in the seventies, when Pachorra and Kaiser shared a roster in River Plate. And although the careers of each then went their separate ways, the friendship remained.
So much so that in 2018, Alejandro Sabella married Silvana Rossi in civilian law and the witness of the event was his friend the Kaiser.
