River Plate is celebrating, on the second anniversary of the final that the Millionaire beat Boca in Madrid 3-1 in 2018. The fans made a caravan from the Obelisk to the Monumental to celebrate the highest achievement in its history.
From 7 pm, many fans crowded into the Obelisk. At first the caravan was planned to be in cars and motorcycles, but thousands of fans gathered on foot at the famous Buenos Aires monument, the venue for the usual celebrations of any team.
Gustavo Yarroch reported on ESPN F90 that the situation got out of hand considering the original call. Without social distancing and with little display of chinstraps, the fans continued to arrive towards the Obelisk, making the situation bigger and bigger.
At 7:45 p.m., the caravan began slowly towards River Stadium with a special truck shaped like a chicken and an endless line of Millionaire fans on foot.
Although the Millionaire is celebrating this anniversary, Marcelo Gallardo and his players have their sights set on the CONMEBOL Libertadores match against Nacional de Uruguay, this Thursday.
The squad had a difficult week, which began with the intoxication of Matías Suárez, the positive cases of Covid-19 of Esteban Fernández, reserve player, Enzo Pérez and two collaborators of the River coaching staff.
For this reason it was decided that the squad should not concentrate prior to the match against the Uruguayan team to avoid close contacts between the players.
