BARCELONA – Víctor Font made it clear that he will not sign Neymar if he is elected president of Barcelona because he considers it an unviable operation from an economic point of view and because he believes that the Brazilian did not act in the best way when he left the club in 2017 to sign for Paris Saint-Germain.
The Barcelona presidential candidate recalled during an interview with ESPN that Neymar still holds several lawsuits against the Catalan club and thinks that the time has come to “turn the page.”
“What he did and the economy are the two reasons why Neymar cannot return to the club,” said Font forcefully.
“Neymar is neither economically nor institutionally viable. He is one of the top players in the world, but neither financially nor can Barça afford an operation or the salary of a figure like Neymar today ”, he insisted.
The Brazilian decided to leave Barcelona a few days before starting the 2017-2018 season after depositing the 222 million euros of his termination clause.
Font thinks that the forms were not the best and makes it clear that the Brazilian has no place in his new sports project.
“He was a person who left us in the hope of a new year with (Ernesto) Valverde on the bench and to see how everything turned out. He leaves us a few days into the season, ”said Font.
“Since he has left, the lawsuit relationship with Neymar is not what it should be. You have to turn the page of these last 17 years and you have to turn the page of people like Neymar, “added the candidate.
